STRONG EARTHQUAKE IN THE ADRIATIC SEA! THE EARTHQUAKE WAS FELT IN ITALY AND CROATIA

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake shook the Adriatic on Saturday. The quake was felt in southern Italy and on the Croatian coast but did not cause significant damage, according to the Italian National Institute of Geophysics (INGV).

The quake was recorded on Saturday, at 13.47 local time (14.47, Romanian time), at a depth of five kilometers below the seabed, and was followed by several aftershocks of lower intensity.

"So far no damage has been reported and no assistance has been requested," Italian firefighters said in a message posted on Twitter.

Chain earthquakes

The Croatian seismic agency said it had a magnitude 5.5 earthquake, followed by a magnitude 4.1 earthquake six minutes later.

The first earthquake was felt more strongly on the central coast of Croatia, in Split, and on the islands of Hvar and Vis, in the south. The epicenter was located about 120 kilometers south of the port of Split.

The earthquakes were also felt in Italy, in Puglia and Abruzzo, up to Naples. Italy is at high seismic risk over much of its territory.
