NASA released on Wednesday a spectacular panoramic photo of the area on the planet Mars where the Perseverance rover landed last week, informs AFP and Agerpres.
THE LANDING:
The photograph reconstructed from several images taken by the vehicle shows the crest of the Jezero crater, which scientists say contained a deep lake in which a river flowed about 3.5 billion years ago.
The rover took 142 360-degree photos with high-definition cameras.
"We settled in a very good place, where you can see features very similar to those identified by Spirit, Opportunity and Curiosity (three rovers that preceded Perseverance on Mars) in their landing area," said Jim excitedly. Bell from the University of Arizona.
PANORAMA VIEW:
Perseverance rover cameras will help scientists establish the geological history and atmospheric conditions of the crater and identify rocks and sediments that will be collected and transported to Earth on a future mission, scheduled for the 2030s.
